Marseille have confirmed that their manager Lucien Favre has been extended until the end of the 2026-27 season, with the club also announcing full budget support until the end of the current campaign.

Favre's contract had previously been due to expire at the end of this season, but he has agreed to stay on as coach until June 2027 in a deal that will see him earn a salary of €5 million per year.

The news comes after a difficult start to the season for Marseille, who have struggled to find form and have only managed two wins from their opening eight games in Ligue 1.

However, the club's board of directors were reportedly keen to keep Favre on board and secure his services long-term, given his track record of success at other clubs including Borussia Dortmund and Monaco.

With full budget support until the end of the season, Favre will be able to focus on building a strong squad and ensuring that Marseille finish in the top half of the table next term.

The club's sporting director, Olivier Sadran, said: "We are very pleased to extend Lucien's contract and to ensure that he is fully supported financially until the end of the season."

"We believe that with his experience and his passion for football, Lucien will help us achieve our goals and take Marseille forward."
